Hi! I’m Christina Popp, a licensed professional counselor. I believe in the ability to change and become who you want to be.
If you’re feeling unfulfilled, worried, sad, or dread the moment you open your eyes in the morning, then you have come to the right place. I am here to help you get unstuck.
Whether you are facing difficulties in relationships, unhelpful thought patterns, life changes, or need support navigating the waters of grief, I am here to walk alongside empowering you to overcome these challenges..
I left a group practice to open PorchLight Mental Wellness because I wanted to be able to help people without constraints. I believe in connecting others to resources, group support, and providing collaborative pathways through other modalities of healing. I believe in whole body wellness.
My Story
My love for therapy began when I was about 7. My favorite shows on repeat were Annie, Punky Brewster, and Pippi Longstalking. They had strong female leadership roles of facing challenges and finding the power to overcome these challenges while also having some mischievous fun. I have always been gravitated towards learning about human struggles and the power to overcome. I am an underdog story.
I had crippling anxiety throughout middle school and high school. I took my first psychology class in high school and knew this was my calling and passion to help others in this field.. However, as life often does it throws us curve balls. I became a young mother which brought immense joy, but also challenges. I had a serious bout of postpartum depression after the birth of one of my children. It is a hard balance of not losing yourself, embracing the person you are becoming, watching your body change repeatedly, hormonal imbalance, and caring for those babies all at the same time.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UW-Parkside before the birth of my third child. I took some time off to care for my three young children, and to help with a parent battling a terminal illness. I went back to school after my fourth child to fulfill my passion of helping others.
I earned my Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Concordia University. This was no easy feat! I worked 30 hours a week, took care of my four children, and studied until 1 and 2 in the morning while going through a divorce. I was driven towards a life that I envisioned for myself, a life where I can help others realize their potential.
I love seeing clients, but also live a balanced life with other hobbies. I love kayaking, especially rivers. I enjoy traveling, as it is a great way to experience and learn about other cultures, while meeting amazing people along the way. I also love gardening, as I find it to be such a mindfulness experience. I love experiencing these hobbies with my fiance, four children, one grandbaby, and some really great friends. We also have an incredibly sweet and sassy puppy, Snoopy. He keeps us on our toes literally because he likes to nibble them while making us laugh and cry at the same time.
This is your opportunity to be heard and validated while propelling forward. There is no better time to move forward and take action than today! Please reach out to connect!
